The Aspire Project is a Public Benefit Not For Profit Corporation organized in the State of Oregon and has been granted 501(c)3 tax-exempt status as a Public Charity by the Internal Revenue Service. Our program is administered by a Board of Directors.
SUE DARROW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR / PRESIDENT
Executive Director and President, Susan Darrow brings over 20 years of experience as a dance instructor (Kansas City, Missouri & Kansas), 10 years’ experience in college operations administration (Warner Pacific College, Portland, OR.) and another 18 years in business management experience (UMB Bank, n.a.). The Aspire Project is the culmination of Sue's love for dance and her desire to motivate children to reach their full potential.
DOROTHY MILNER SECRETARY
Secretary, Dorothy Milner, has had a life-long desire to mentor children to help develop them into successful people. She has her Master’s degree in counseling and has over 40 years’ experience working with young people. For 10 years, she was a counselor in the Oregon City elementary school system. In addition, Dorothy has served 15 years in higher education, including serving as dean of students.
DAN DARROWBOARD MEMBER
Board Member At-Large, Daniel Darrow has over 40 years of business operations management experience. In addition, Daniel and Susan have several years of experience working with youth in the urban Kansas City area. Dan's financial background and technical expertise is a valuable asset to the organization.
ASHLEY TRIMBLEBOARD MEMBER
Board Member At-Large, Ashley Trimble is a Learning & Development Associate Manager with Wells Fargo Bank. She leads a team of facilitators who provide customer experience training to retail team members in Oregon and SW Washington. During her 11 year career at Wells Fargo, Ashley has worked as a teller, banker, manager, and trainer, before accepting her role as the LDAM. Ashley is a longtime dancer. She began dancing in her hometown of Newton, KS and continued for 16 years. Ashley began dancing again in 2014 and enjoys taking a variety of classes in the Portland area. She currently resides in NE Portland with her husband and their two children.
MIKE VERBOUTBOARD MEMBER
Board Member At-Large, former principal at Applegate, Beach and James John schools, Mike Verbout is a lifelong North Portland resident who loves his neighborhood. After retiring from his 33-year career as a Portland Public Schools teacher and principal, much of his work revolves around the schools. Besides his activism in the schools, Mike is a volunteer with Loaves and Fishes, Peninsula Kiwanis and North Portland Optimist Club; a board member of The Salvation Army and co- creator of “Celebrate North Portland,” with the goal of recognizing and honoring the businesses, individuals and groups that have made a difference.
